Hypocrisy

They were careless people… they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

These lines by from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald aptly describe how powerful people in society corrupt the society. The political rhetoric and hypocrisy fueled intensely by the media is perhaps a far greater evil in society than any other.
