Sourav Ganguly’s retirement : The deal

Sourav Ganguly, the prince of kolkatta, the god of offside and the first aggressive leader of Indian Cricket will finally bid goodbye to International cricket in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. This post is not dedicated for praising his achievements, but a closer look at the BCCI retirement scheme. Last one year has been particularly tough for Ganguly and he will get the benifit of retiring early (earlier than his mates, sachin and dravid) in terms of good media deals. BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) which was playing the role of Bad Boss for the last two years has given DADA a chance to redeem himself and get out of cricket gracefully (Rather than being thrown out). Being trhown out of the Indian squad regularly was humiliating for Ganguly, a fact he accepted when he said,”I was tired of being humiliated again and again”. This is even tougher for a more aggressive person.

The more corporate BCCI has forged out a nice retirement scheme : Retire Gracefully Scheme for Elders (RGSE)

The next ones to be given (forcefully) this scheme are Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. I don’t think Sourav Ganguly has willingly taken this decision. It seems to me as part of a contract which says ” You can play this series only if you announce you retirement “. I am not in favour of any such methods but I feel such decision, whether forecefull or not will help evolve a new platform for the ones who are raring to make a mark on the future of Indian Cricket.

  1. Absolute rubbish. And this is not a humble way to send off greats like Dada, Sachin and Dravid. I request people to think what great work they have done to the indian team during their period. There couldn’t be the slightest of the doubts even for child when asked about who is the greatest batsman cricket has ever produced, it’s none other than Sachin Tendulkar. The most successful and ferocious captain of all times for India, Sourav Ganguly. And the formidable wall and the man of consistency, Rahul Dravid.

See these people at the selection committee think themselves as god and speaks as if they were the flawless cricketers of their time. AND THIS ONE IS FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE PREVIOUS SELECTION COMMITTEE. GOOD GREAT GENTLEMEN DILIP VENGSARKAR AND SYED KIRMANI, WE KNOW YOUR RECORDS. MIND YOU PEOPLE YOU ARE NOT WORTHY TO JUDGE WHO IS TO BE IN AND WHO IS TO BE OUT. IN THE CONTEXT OF SELECTING AND MAINTAINING A STRONG INDIAN TEAM YOU HAVE BEEN TORTURING THE BIG THREE AND HAVE RUINED A LIFE OF ONE SIGNIFICANT CRICKETER SOURAV GANGULY.

we have to really think about the fact that how could you perform or concentrate on whatever you do when your head is placed between the blades of a guillotine. This is what those gentle men did to sourav and was doing to rahul and sachin. Thank god the selection committee has changed but the news was not pleasing ganguly fans when he announced his retirement. I accept the fact that this is not the place for sentiments but there should be a slightest dignity shown to them.

And one important fact is THE MEDIA HAS CONVINCINGLY DONE ITS WORST PART IN THROWING LIGHT OVER THE SENIOR JUNIOR BARRIER WHICH IS NOT PRESENT IN ANY OF THE NATIONS IN THE WORLD.

Great cricketing nations like Australia produces talented cricketers time to time without disturbing seniors like whats happening in India. Friends this has to be brought to an end as soon as possible and hereafter the board should act in a dignified way and who knows even Dhoni might be sent out in a worst way forgetting the T20 World cup victory, CB series victory, the victory in the recent test match and many more to come.

  2. Its all a matter of time.

India has performed well in Mohali and that is a reason we are all gaga about the fab four.

Emotions seldom have reason as their base and that precisely explains your response.

It is a known fact that Ganguly was included in the squad only to retire in this series.

He has to go. Kumble too has to go. Otherwise players like Amit Mishra, who can be future spinners will be unknown to the world.

Playing cricket has an age. The longer seniors extend their stay, the longer the juniors will have to wait. It is a ripple effect.

  3. “will help evolve a new platform for the ones who are raring to make a mark on the future of Indian Cricket.”

    – How exactly would it evolve the platform for these utopian youngsters that you are talking about

    – Please come up with some names who you think are definitely better than ppl who have score 12000, 10000 and 7000 test runs
