PIC 16F84 based digital thermometer using DS18S20 singled wired
Data Acquisition is obtaining real world data to generate data that can be manipulated by a computer. Sometimes abbreviated as DAQ or DAS, data acquisition typically involves acquiring signals and processing them to obtain the desired information The components of DAQ include appropriate sensors that convert any measurement parameter to an electrical signal, which is acquired by the DAQ hardware.
Data acquisition begins with the physical phenomenon or the physical property of an object to be measured. This physical property or phenomenon could be temperature change, intensity change of a light source, the pressure inside a chamber, the force applied to an object, or many other parameters.
This Data Acquisition System works as a microcontroller-based digital thermometer for measuring the body temperature. It can measure the temperature in degree centigrade and displays fever if the temperature is more than 37 oC .
The microcontroller used is PIC16F84, which provides interfacing with a temperature sensor. The PIC is programmed in such a way so as to gather temperature values on an LCD display.
At software level, the PIC is programmed using BASIC PIC compiler from OSHONSOFT. The coding phase involves utilization of PIC architecture knowledge and interfacing details.
